Crane Counters' Workshop

Sunday March 25, 2018

Times: 1 - 2 pm

Citizen Scientists are invited to participate in the Annual Midwest Crane Count! Imagine getting up at o’dark-thirty, settling onto a lawn chair before sunrise, and looking and listening for cranes as their day and yours begins. This point-count survey aims to find each and every crane during an exact window in time – 5:30 am – 7:30 am on Saturday, April 14. Each monitor is assigned a location from which to watch and is expected to submit data the same day to the International Crane Foundation who organizes this six-state survey. Our workshop covers the protocol of collecting the data and shares tips for making the most of this amazing, magical morning experience. Open to adults and interested youth ages 13 and up. Registration is required at 815-344-1294 or dnr.volobog@illinois.gov; tell us names, cell number and ages of minors.
