Happy June, Lake County! Summer will be here soon and with it, some fantastic happenings.

Summer weather brings a plethora of activities to get out and experience our wonderful county. Dance your shoes off at Ravinia Festival and the live performances, visit the weekly farmers markets, hang out in the beer gardens of the Libation Trail partners or take in a variety of exhibitions and activities.

Grab a bite to eat at a food truck, celebrate Pride Month or show your support to the numerous small businesses, or take in the nature of the numerous trails and paths of the Lake County Forest Preserve District.

There is no shortage of festivals in the month of June. You can scope out new talent and see some of your all-time favorites. Alternatively, eat and imbibe your way through the various downtown districts of the places that make up Lake County. No matter your preference of delicious food, crunchy tunes or eye-catching art pieces, rest assured that there is a festival for you.

The Tempel Lipizzans are a woman-owned business located in Old Mill Creek that have been training the Lipizzan breed for over half a century. Grounded in historical accuracy and a sharp style of showmanship, The Tempel Lipizzans are a must-see performance for those who live in Lake County and surrounding areas. June is their season kick-off, so visit the farm and see the spectacle with your own eyes.

Juneteenth is a holiday traditionally observed on June 19 that commemorates the emancipation of African-Americans. Today, it is marked as an opportunity to celebrate, educate and emphasize Black history and the struggles still faced by the community. Take the time to attend one of the events and make Lake County inclusive, welcoming and a place that invites humans of any background to come and revel in their heritage.

9. 25th Anniversary Party at Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets (June 24-25)

Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets in Lake Barrington has a ton to celebrate about, especially after 25 years. For the bash, they want to invite the public to revel with them. While there, be sure to try the Misfit IPA, our featured libation of the month for June. Visit this Lake County Libation Trail partner, where they will be tapping celebratory beers, including one made with 25 different hops. On the first day of the jubilations, there will be live music performed by Pat McKillen. Day two will feature groovy tunes by the Bourbon Aristocracy. During this party, you will be able to order food and different craft beers at the timber bar and in the dining room for an extra fee.

10. Illinois Arborist Association Tree Climbing Championship in Zion (June 25)

Break out the climbing gear and secure the tools, the Illinois Arborist Association (IAA) is hosting their IAA Tree Climbing Championship in Lake County. Tree climbing competitions are meant to simulate real-world working conditions and situations that may arise on the job of an arborist. This climbing tournament will be held at Shiloh Park in Zion and start at 7:15 a.m. with gear checks, and start the ascent at 8 a.m. Each participant will utilize skills and qualifications that they have learned through the years to see who can climb the quickest and complete assigned tasks. There will be 25 male competitors and five female competitors. Winners will climb for the title of "Best in Illinois," and then move on to the international tournaments in Denmark.
