Why doesn’t Mother Nature want to agree with us yet?

It’s almost like we get every season every other day. Sunday was at least perfect for Mother’s Day.

If you’re a Cubs fan, winning nine of the last 10 is pretty impressive. If you’re a White Sox fan, this was probably an unimaginable start. As for the Brewers…..um…keep your head up?

We’re almost at opening day of the JUSTICE LEAGUE ride at Six Flags Great America. The ride is scheduled to open for Memorial Day weekend. But until we get there, it is a star packed weekend for music-lovers this weekend in Lake County. Let’s take a  look at the top things to do this weekend May 13-15.

  1. Genesee Theatre has a star-studded weekend for your pleasure. On Friday, rock legend Pat Benatar and her husband Neil Geraldo travel to the Waukegan theatre for a one-night show playing your favorite hits. The two will perform an intimate acoustic evening of hits including ‘Hit me with your best shot,’ ‘Love is a battlefield,’ ‘We belong,’ and many more. On Saturday, veteran comedians Tommy Davidson and David Alan Grier has their destination set in Waukegan. The two versatile actors that got their start on the early 1990s show, ‘In Living Color,’ show will make you laugh until your cheeks hurt.

  1. When spring comes, so does the Antioch's Civic Club Spring CarnivalAntioch Civic Club Annual Spring Carnival. This is a nostalgic and old-fashioned carnival where all the staple foods and rides are available. Unlimited daily wristbands are available for all of the thrilling festivities all throughout this downtown Antioch party.
Friday-Sunday, May 13-15; Fri 6-10 p.m., Sat 1-11 p.m., Sun 1-6 p.m. $25 for wristbands per day. Downtown Antioch, Toft St., Antioch.
  1. Many notable names are making a stop in Lake County. Austin’s Fuel RoomScott Stapp - The Voice of Creed at Austins hosts a Grammy winner who was the front man for the renowned band Creed. Grammy Award winning artist Scott Stapp has encompassed all the talent and torment imaginable in scaling to musical success. Watch Stapp perform chart-topping favorites such as, ‘Higher,’ ‘With Arms Wide Open,’ ‘My Sacrifice,’ ‘My Own Prison,’ and then some. The rocker with the booming voice will be gracing the stage just one night in Libertyville.

Join Ryerson Woods for a family event with Skokie Valley Astronomers: Explore the Cosmos. Adults and children will learn about a cosmos, hear short presentations about astronomy and observe the Lake County night sky with binoculars or telescope following the discussion.

  1. From purple coneflowers to sky blue asters, choose plants that contribute to Native Plant Saleboth the beauty of the yard and the health of the natural world. The annual native plant sale at Almond Marsh Forest Preserve features over 160 species of perennials, grasses, ferns, shrubs, trees and other local and regional vegetation. There will also be a large quantity of high quality organic compost available.
