Toast to the scary-good Lake County makers of craft beer, wines and spirits with on the Spooks & Spirits Libation Trail Check-In Challenge. Participants check-in for the challenge via mobile device from October 21-31 when visiting a participating winery, distillery or brewery. The Visit Lake County Libation Trail campaign is highlighted by Bosacki’s Brewery and Tighthead Brewing Co. in Mundelein, Copper Fiddle Distillery, Roaring Table Brewing Co. and Phase Three Brewing Co. in Lake Zurich, Light the Lamp Brewery and Glunz Family Winery & Cellars in Grayslake, Nightshade and Dark’s Pandemonium Brewing, Zümbier Brewery and Oppidan Spirits in Waukegan, Buffalo Creek Brewing Co. and Valentino Vineyards & Winery in Long Grove, Half Day Brewing Co. and Wright’s Brew and Bistro in Lincolnshire, Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville, Ravinia Brewing Co. in Highland Park, Side Lot Brewery in Wauconda, North Shore Distillery in Green Oaks, Pazzo di Vino and 28 Mile Distillery Co. in Highwood, Harbor Brewing Co. in Winthrop Harbor, Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets in Lake Barrington, Harbor Brewing Co. and 9th Hour Brewing Co. in Lake Villa, Vigneto del Bino Vineyard and Winery in Antioch, Lynfred Winery in Wheeling and Highland Park, Liquid Love Brewing Co. in Buffalo Grove and Black Lung Brewing Co. in Round Lake Beach. The grand prize awards one individual a 10-person bus tour sponsored by 95 WIIL Rock (95.1 WIIL-FM) to visit participating Lake County Libation Trail partners. To be eligible, you individuals ages 21 and older must patronize at least three of the breweries, distilleries and wineries on the Lake County Libation Trail within 10 days. 2. Halloween Hoopla Family Fun Fest in Deerfield

Deerfield’s month-long spooky party ends Saturday with the Halloween Hoopla Family Fun Fest. The Jewett Park festival features pumpkin decorating, seasonally themed games, arts and crafts, a hayride, a trackless train and live entertainment. The party in the park is also highlighted by a scavenger hunt, a magician, artful balloon twisters and inflatables. Food, snacks and treats are available for purchase. Halloween Hoopla visitors are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. Registration costs $5 for residents, and $6 for non-residents. All participants must register online for the festival at DeerfieldParks.org. The Halloween Hoopla Fun Fest is for children ages three-to-12 years old.

3. Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) at Jack Benny Center for the Arts

Visit and observe the Day of the Dead holiday at Waukegan’s Jack Benny Center for the Arts. Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration steeped in Latin culture where families pay tribute to the departed and share memories of loved ones. The free Waukegan Park District and Sugar Skulls Xilotl fest features traditional altar exhibits, art vendors, delicious cuisine, sugar skull workshops and lively dance presentations.

4. Halloween Hikes at the Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area

Bring the family to Lake County Forest Preserves District’s (LCFPD) long-standing tradition of the Halloween Hikes. Join a guided group hike along a candlelit path at Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area to view fun nature-themed skits. This Halloween program is scary in no way, shape or form, so even the family’s youngest members will have fun. Hikes last 90 minutes, and each group departs in 30-minute intervals. The candlelit path is approximately one-and-a-half miles long. Following the ghoulish stroll, hikers receive donuts and cider in the LCFPD facility’s log cabin. Participants can warm up by the fireplace. Admission is $10 for Lake County residents, and non-resident entry is $12. Registration closes at noon on each hiking day. Children aged three and under are free. Secure your spot today, as registration for the event is filling up.

5. Ghost Tours in Downtown Antioch

Uncover the hauntings and happenings of downtown Antioch on Friday. The Antioch Ghost Tours begin at the downtown area’s movie theatre, where groups are guided to haunted sites and hear of alleged paranormal stories and village history, followed by a Q&A session where they started. The night concludes with a 10:45 p.m. showing of the 2014 film “Paranormal Island,” which was filmed at Antioch-area attraction, Blarney Island. The walking tours are guided by 42-year Antioch residents and U.S. Paranormal Research investigators Bryan and Kat Meisinger. Tickets are $30 and include a 10% discount on drinks at The Lodge of Antioch or Rivalry Alehouse after the tours.
