1. Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Garden
Wander through a winter light show wonderland at Chicago Botanic Garden’s Lightscape. Visitors walk the 1.25-mile path with art installations, thousands of glowing lights and bright colors complemented by musical trees. Stroll through a winter cathedral of light displays, roast marshmallows around a fire and experience more breathtaking sights at this one-of-a-kind experience. Attendees must purchase tickets early to secure their time slot. Due to the popularity of this lighted extravaganza, tickets regularly sell out. Children ages two and under receive free admission, and parking costs $10-$20 per vehicle. Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Garden runs on select days through January 8. 2. WGN Radio's Dean Richards at Treetime Christmas Creations
Emmy Award-winning host, reporter and critic Dean Richards remote broadcasts his WGN Radio-720 AM Sunday Morning show from Treetime Christmas Creations. The Lake Barrington event features Richard’s movie reviews, classic cinema movie passes and giveaways. There is an in-store live performance by the cast of Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire’s current production, “A Christmas Story.” Broadcast attendees receive 15 percent off all purchases with “Dean’s Discount.” Lou Malnati’s Pizza is on hand selling slices after working up an appetite with the décor deals. After the live show, peruse Treetime Christmas Creations’ trees, wreaths, lighting equipment, and other holiday home decorations.

3. Chicagoland Antique Advertising, Slot Machine and Jukebox Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center
Antique aficionados and vintage machine lovers rejoice as the Chicagoland Antique Advertising, Slot Machine and Jukebox Show heads to the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center. The Grayslake vintage showcase features classic vending machines, jukeboxes, tin signs, gumball machines, popcorn makers, saloon items, pedal cars, carnival décor, posters, video games, phone booths and countless more. 4. Final Weekend of the Lake County Film Festival
Celebrate local filmmakers and student video creators during the Lake County Film Festival’s second and final weekend. The hometown cinema festival features over 100 narrative films, documentary showcases and short flicks. “Rockin’ The Suburbs” features homemade music videos produced in Lake County communities. The College of Lake County hosts in-person screenings at its Grayslake Campus in rooms A011, C105, D100, T332 and T334. 5. The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass Band at James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts
Get down with the vibrant sound of the east coast as only The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass Band can deliver. This stellar virtuoso musician collective takes the stage Saturday at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County. The brass band mixes musical styles, including big band swing, classic stylings, straight jazz and the unmistakable sound of New Orleans influences. The performance includes a narrator who guides the audience to help make a connection to the rhythms. The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass Band is naming this version of the performance “Brothers on the Battlefield: The Power of Love.” The title signifies the bandmates all bringing their collective histories with them and breaking down the barriers of musical genres.
