Festivals and celebrations are a big deal here in Lake County. Once summer hits, that's when we have fun.Six Flags Great America is open for the season and always a solid choice when you want thrills for the weekend.
Ravinia Festival is well underway and a fantastic option when you want to bring everyone for a night of rocking tunes and cold beer.

There are plenty of activities and things to do this weekend of June 24-26. Read on below to find an experience that you can enjoy solo, with family or to bring friends along to.
1. Historic Downtown Long Grove Strawberry Fest

Historic Downtown Long Grove’s homage to strawberry season is one of Lake County’s and the Chicagoland area’s annual summer highlights. The Long Grove Strawberry Fest features edible creations like food, drinks and dessert highlighted with one juicy ingredient. Local restaurants, cooks and vendors from the county and surrounding area will be present serving up their own take on the fruit. The three-day festival also showcases musical performances including Kashmir on Friday night performing a Led Zeppelin tribute, the Hairbangers Ball on Saturday night full of 1980s classic rock hits and Of Perception will be performing a tribute to The Doors on Sunday afternoon. The fruit festival also provides visitors with a carnival and rides are available to guests with the purchase of tickets or an unlimited ride wristband for $25. The Kids Zone returns as well and features arts and crafts, pie eating contests, a kid-friendly DJ and family-oriented band Ben Tatar and The Tatar Tots. Parking is available at the Buffalo Grove Park District building and on Archer Road in between Robert Parker Coffin & Old McHenry Road with a shuttle running a loop between the sites. 2. Taste of Grayslake Family Picnic and Fireworks

The Taste of Grayslake Family Picnic & Fireworks on Saturday in Central Park will light up the night sky with a colorful series of fireworks. The Grayslake Park District, Independence Day tradition celebrates the holiday a week in advance with a carnival, local eats and drinks, a pyrotenics display and live tunes. For adults ages 21 and older, they can explore Grayslake Lake County Libation Trail partners Light the Lamp Brewery and Glunz Family Winery and Cellars craft beer and wine, respectively. Local vendors from the Grayslake community and surrounding areas like Dog N Suds, BBQ Productions, Pierogi Rig food truck and Brat Shop offer food and desserts at the experience. Vinyl Goldmine and the Gina Gonzales Band provide toe-tapping tunes to keep you dancing through the day. 3. Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets celebrates 25 years

Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets in Lake Barrington is celebrating 25 years in business at their taproom, and they want to invite the public to revel with them. Visit this Lake County Libation Trail partner, where they will be tapping celebratory beers, including one made with 25 different hops. On the first day of the jubilations, local singer and songwriter Pat McKillen performs live. Day two features groovy tunes by the Kentucky-based, bluegrass band Bourbon Aristocracy. During this party, visitors can relish in their award-winning food and flagship ales and lagers. Tickets can be purchased in-advance at OnionBrewery.com under the menu section.

4. Summer Spotlight Performance at Tempel Lipizzans

The Tempel Lipizzans invites visitors to their Summer Spotlight performance this Saturday evening featuring the elegant dancing stallions. The matinee show is broken into five segments taking visitors through Tempel Farms history and their breeding and care program, the stallion and rider’s training regiment, how the trainers work with the majestic animals and the different “dance steps” horses perform. After the first four pieces are demonstrated, “The Quadrille: Ballet of the White Stallion” is performed, which is the choreographed presentation. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online (and learn more about these highly-trained and intelligent horses) at TempelFarms.com, but can be acquired at the door.

5. Illinois Arborist Association Tree Climbing Championship in Zion

The Illinois Arborist Association (IAA) is hosting its Tree Climbing Championship in Zion at Shiloh Park Saturday morning. The tree climbing competitions are meant to simulate authentic, working conditions and situations that may arise on the job of an arborist. Each participant utilizes skills they have learned through the years to see who can climb the quickest and complete assigned tasks. The tourney is highlighted by 25 male competitors and five female competitors. Competitors will climb for “Best in Illinois” title and the winners advance to the international tournaments in Denmark.

6. Wizards Weekend Day in Antioch

Fantasy, magic and good story telling are on the docket at the Wizards Weekend Day in downtown Antioch this Saturday. All things of a magical nature are being celebrated and the Kids School of Magic provides your child (ages 7-13) with a brush up on their old spells, cast new ones and build friendships with fellow wizards, witches and muggles. Wizards Day is held on Main Street and local shops, restaurants and vendors offer their take on magical potions, beverages and food. The craft fair provides the opportunity to purchase themed goods, merchandise and magical concoction-making trinkets. There is a scavenger hunt throughout the day that offers a prize at the event’s finale, a raffle that has hand-made rewards, a “flying broom,” wizard bag set and a wizard yahtzee yard game. A banquet closes the festivities and provides visitors with photo opportunities, a mac n’ cheese bar and a wizard potion demo that both kids and adults can enjoy.
