Experience five distinct thoroughfares of Lake County and the adventures Lake County Road Trips offer when you “Let the Ride Take You!” Choose to make the trek this weekend and throughout summer via car, bike or on foot and travel on Illinois Route 21, U.S Route 45, Illinois Route 83, Illinois Route 41 and U.S Route 12. Explore the museums in the area including Volo Museum and its captivating Jurassic Gardens exhibit, imbibe at one of the many watering holes of the Lake County Libation Trail, chase thrills and splashes at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, shop along the streets in the downtown districts of our various towns, simply bum it on a beach at one of 75 lakes in the land of lakes and so much more. Visitors have a chance to win four free tickets to Six Flags Great America or an overnight stay at Great Wolf Lodge Illinois in Gurnee, by registering at VisitLakeCounty.org/Road-Trips. 2. "The Wizard of Oz" at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire

Travel down the “Yellow Brick Road” to the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire and witness their production of Lyman Frank Baum’s original tale “The Wizard of Oz.” The renowned mainstage’s celebrated Children Theatre Production returns after a two-year hiatus following protagonists Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, accompanied by run-ins with the Wicked Witch of the West. It is the classic story of four unlikely friends in their adventure to find not only the Emerald City, but their own versions of home. The acting skills of the talented cast will be on full display in the one-hour production that features the classic melodies “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The production is directed by Johanna McKenzie-Miller (Marriott Theatre’s “Kiss Me,” “Madagascar” and “Junie B. Jones”) and the choreography was composed by Tiffany Krause. Tickets start at $15, and the Lincolnshire production runs on select days through August 7.

3. Vernon Hills Days at Century Park

Revel in an abundance of food, fun, music and carnival rides for the weekend at Vernon Hills Days at Century Park. The free-admission festival, formally called the Vernon Hills Summer Cel, features live music provided by the legendary Jefferson Starship. The 30-year-old band descends from Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy Award-winning Jefferson Airplane (that included former Highland Park resident Grace Slick). The “prog” rock band’s album called “Red Octopus” went double platinum featuring Billboard Chart-Topping “Miracles” and “Play on Love.” Brett Scallions Band headlines Saturday’s festivities, who was also the lead singer of multi-platinum band 1990s band, Fuel. Other local live acts include Mike & Joe and Billboard and MTV Award-winning HiFi Superstar. The Vernon Hills star-studded musical acts are complemented by a petting zoo, kid’s game show, a carnival, Bingo, Lake County local eats and kid-friendly activities including arts and crafts, face painting and a balloon animal artist. Those confident in their singing abilities have the opportunity to do karaoke on the main stage Sunday. The annual bags tournament is on Sunday as is the beloved Cream-A-Cop fundraiser. 4. Taste of Summer in Downtown Antioch
Sample, savor and celebrate the flavors of various restaurants during the Taste of Summer in downtown Antioch. Various Antioch eateries including The Lodge of Antioch, Rivalry Alehouse and others provide enticing eats. Food may be at the forefront of this redolent romp, but the fest is also highlighted by bands playing tunes, a carnival offering fun for the entire family, Sidewalk Sales and the chance to be outside and enjoy the downtown area. The special needs carnival is offered to applicable individuals and their family members to partake between 1-3 p.m., on Friday. Single ride tickets can be purchased, or riders can buy the unlimited ride wristband for $35 per day. The Mega Pass is available for $65 and offers unlimited rides for every day of the Taste. The Patriotic Musical Light Show begins at 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Local music acts Dancing Queens: An ABBA Salute and Simply Elton will mesmerize audiences on Friday. Aging Teen Idols, Neverly Brothers and Heartache Tonight will rock the stage on Saturday evening. 5. Carmel Street Scenes in Mundelein

Carmel Street Scenes returns for its 48th installment in Mundelein celebrating the high school’s 60th Birthday. The free Carmel Catholic High School festival is highlighted by food, games, over 50 musical and live performances, beverages and the family carnival. Student and community acts will perform in the free admission area and spans a large range of theatre, drama, improv and musical performances. Local live entertainment outside of student participation is also provided on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s lineup starts with Six Speed Tranny opening the stage and Hi Infidelity closing out the evening. Sunday is Bella Cain Unplugged providing the music. The outdoor fest usually taking place in the winter, also features its Games of Chance Casino including craps and roulette. Visitors can participate in a cornhole tournament both days and 50-50 raffle tickets can be purchased for those wanting to participate. Food and beverage will be available for purchase on site including adult drinks being served by Lake County Libation Trail Partner Tighthead Brewing Co.
