Fourth of July was relatively quiet last year. That won't be the case this year as cities, villages, organizations and even neighborhoods in Lake County are getting ready to celebrate America's birthday with a bang.With rowdy revelry right around the corner, don't forget that Six Flags Great America is open for excitement and thrills.
Ravinia Festival will be bringing on headliners throughout the month that will have you dancing, rocking and grooving out to cool tunes.

1. Red, White & Boom 2022 in Lincolnshire

Red, White & Boom takes place Sunday and Monday in Lincolnshire at North and Spring Lake Parks. On Sunday, the Fourth of July holiday event is highlighted by live music by local band the Spoken Four (1950s-current day cover tunes), carnival rides, a magic show, a touch-a-truck-demonstration, a police K9 demonstration, bingo and more. The Monday celebrations continue with the 40th annual 5K Race and Red, White, & BOOM! Parade, beginning at 8 and 10 a.m. respectively. Immediately following the parade, Lincolnshire hosts the cardboard boat regatta in Spring Lake at 1 p.m. The festivities conclude with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. For more information about fireworks viewing location, the parade, the cardboard boat regatta and 5K race registrations, visit LincolnshireIl.gov.

2. Deerfield Celebrates 57th Annual Family Days

The 57th annual Deerfield Family Days celebrates the Fourth of July weekend over two days split between Brickyards and Jewett Parks. Day one at of the party is at Brickyards Park, and is highlighted by delicious eats from local vendors, carnival games, free bounce rides and a DJ spinning tunes. Fireworks wrap up the celebrations at dusk. The festivities resume on Monday at Jewett Park featuring the Rotary 5K Race in the morning followed by the dog show, the canine parade, a bike processional, carnival rides, an arts and crafts bazaar, a flower exposé. The Independence Day party concludes with the walking parade at Deerspring Pool on Deerfield Road to Jewett Park. 3. Mundelein Community Days

Mundelein Community Days takes place over the Fourth of July weekend and is held at Kracklauer Park. The three-day, USA Birthday party features a variety of activities including a fireworks display, a carnival, the Mundelein Community Days parade, Mundelein Park District’s Freedom Classic 5K/Walk, pony rides, a petting zoo, fire engine rides, bingo, arts and crafts, a parade, a magic show, Dave DiNaso’s Travelling World of Reptiles and so much more. The community days fest also features myriad competitions like the Senior Horseshow tournament, a watermelon-eating contest, a bags tourney and more. Don’t miss a beat throughout the weekend as local musicians Gina Gonzalez and the Wingmen, 7th Heaven, Brushville and other acts grace the Mundelein stages. 4. Celebrate Fox Lake

Celebrate Fox Lake takes place Saturday with different experiences at Lakefront and Millennium Parks. The patriotic party kicks off the event with a charity classic car show at Millennium Park. The parade follows marching south on Grand Avenue at 11 a.m. Visitors can take a break for the celebration reconvening at 5 p.m. at Lakefront Park highlighted by live music, fare, beverages and activities for kids. The featured evening performances include the Navy Band Great Lakes called Horizon followed by pop/rock cover band Serendipity. Fireworks begin at dusk and are displayed over Nippersink Lake. 5. Bitter Jester Music Festival Grand Finale Concert

The 16th annual Bitter Jester Music Festival Grand Finale Concert coincides with the Fourth of July and closes out the competition and holiday weekend with fireworks. The high school and college-aged student musician contest began in late May highlighted by emerging performers from 40 cities and eight states. From the original 40 playing for “Grand Prize Winner” title include showcase winners like Keep the Eleven, Scorched Waves, Fightin’ Bob Band, Summer Drive, New Age Americans, Venganza, Fluctuation, Opening Day and a Wild Card selection. Bitter Jester Music Festival’s purpose is to bring together young musicians who display immense talent and to give young performers a shot at recognition. Drinks and food are available for purchase at the venue. Be sure to visit the competition’s website, BitterJesterFoundation.org for when they announce the finale line-up. Parking and the concert are free at Wolters Field, also a prime viewing spot for Highland Park’s Fourth of July fireworks.
