We're getting ready for the Spooks & Spirits Autumn Celebration. There’s something for everyone! Fall festivals full of delicious food. Costume parades to show off seasonal style. Haunted houses, corn mazes and pumpkin patches to explore. Six Flags’ famous Fright Fest is always a hoot and holler.

1. Potawatomi Trails Pow Wow in Zion

Visit Shiloh Park in Zion for the annual one-of-a-kind Potawatomi Trails Pow Wow. This unique experience celebrates Native American culture, traditions and customs in the northern Illinois region. The cultural jubilee features Native American ceremony demonstrations, musical performances and dance presentations. Visitors can listen to the storytelling sessions and watch porcupine quillwork demos. Both days of the Pow Wow open with a grand ceremony where the flags and dancers are announced as they enter the arena. The festival features raffles, arts and crafts for sale and various auctions both days of celebration. The Potawatomi Pow Wow aims to raise awareness of Native American history. Saturday-Sunday, August 27-28; Sat.: 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sun.: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Admission: $1 for kids ages six to 12 years old, $5 for adults, free for kids under six years of age and individuals over 65. Food and activities will cost extra. Shiloh Park, 1619 27th St., Zion.

2. Elote Festival in Round Lake Beach

Elote Festival is a three-day celebration of Mexican street corn that is held at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. The corn festival features musical acts like Enlacede Nuevo Leon, Here For The Summer Collective, Six Speed Tranny and Sangre Cardona. Los Chicos Del 512 - The Selena Experience closes out the festival on Sunday evening. The free admission party is highlighted by carnival rides, bounce houses and food trucks selling all the street maize imaginable for the entire weekend. Shake your tailfeather with free Latin dance lessons provided by LatinoXpressions Dance and Fitness Studio, followed by Columbian salsa. Women ages eight and 21 can delight in thefree Miss and Little Miss Elote Queen Pageant on Friday. Free parking is available at the Round Lake Beach Metra Station. 3. Brazilian Festival in Lake Zurich

Revel in Latin-American culture at Lake Zurich’s Brazilian Festival in Paulus Park this Saturday and Sunday. Delicious food is at the forefront of this pop-up festival along with family fun, shopping and the celebration of the Brazilian culture in Lake County. This festival features a variety of vendors who are selling a large range of merchandise. DJ Nogueira, Dill Costa Duo and Sambrazilian Chicago provide the beats for this party. Parking is free in the Paulus Park parking lot.

Saturday-Sunday, August 27-28; Sat.: 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun.: noon-5 p.m. Admission and parking: free. Food and activities will cost extra. Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Rd., Lake Zurich.

4. Summer Spotlight Performance at Tempel Lipizzans

The Tempel Lipizzans invites visitors to their Summer Spotlight performance this Sunday. The Old Mill Creek matinee show is broken into five segments taking visitors through the Lipizzan Tradition of the mares and foals, all the steps and movement of the Classical School, the stallion and rider’s training regiment, how the trainers work with the majestic animals and the different “dance steps” horses execute. “The Quadrille: Ballet of the White Stallion” performance wraps up the demonstration. Purchase tickets online (and learn more about these highly trained and intelligent horses) at TempelFarms.com or at the door. The Tempel Lipizzans summer season runs on select days through September 4.

5. Harbor Brewing Company's Backyard Bash in Lake Villa

Lake County Libation Trail partner Harbor Brewing Company hosts its inaugural Backyard Bash this weekend. This Lake Villa craft beer festival features an eclectic mix of musical acts and fare options. Local bands James and Friends perform Friday, LJT and the Leftovers, the Lunar Ticks and Billy Garner play on Saturday and Mykal Baas and the ACME Band grace the stage on Sunday. Mobile vendors include Lucky’s Spitfire, The Code Sports Bar of Lake Villa, JC’s BBQ, Mijo’s Authentic Mexican Food and The SweetStop. Amber’s Balloons and Face Painting is in attendance Saturday and Sunday afternoons providing engaging kid activities. Visit HarborBeer.com for more information.
