We finally got hit with the snow we were cross country skiing (5)looking for. However, this weekend may be a weekend to stay indoors, because Lake County has an abundance of live theatre performances. If you were looking forward to frolicking in the snow, Lake County offers that too. Here are five memorable Lake County events for you and the family.

1.)    Thirsty for more of your favorite television drama, Downton Abbey? The Emmy-and-Golden-Globe-Award Winning British series brings its powerful performance to the states! Watch history come alive when actor and historical interpreter Leslie Goddard takes on the role of Margaret Powell. Powell’s memoirs helped to inspire the Downtown Abbey show. This play at the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum takes you on a journey of the servant’s daily life in the early 20th century. The drama takes place during World War I, and Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum is presenting the 1914 war exhibit. So stick around for the exhibit showing until May 31. Suggested donation for adults is $3 and $1 for children.

Grayslake Heritage Center 164 Hawley Street Grayslake, IL 60030. Saturday at 2 p.m.

cross country skiing (46)2.)    After Superbowl Sunday’s blizzard that was the fifth largest in history, you have the opportunity with a fresh coat of snow to learn how to snowshoe! Ryerson Woods will be hosting a two-hour outing where you will learn the proper technique and use of equipment, to make the snowshoeing experience is a success. Since you will be outdoors for two hours, make sure you bundle up in synthetic clothing and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Register online or calling directly. General admission is $40 and Brushwood Center member’s entry fee is $35.

The setting is during the time of when the Louisiana Purchase Exposition World Fair occurred in 1904. You will enjoy tunes such as, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which debuted in the movie. Buy your ticket now for this two-week showing at the Antioch Theatre. Actors continue to break legs at this venue, and surely will for this 1940s classic. Adult admission is $13 while seniors and kids entry fee is $11.
