Things to do this Weekend October 9-11

OctoberfestExperiencing Oktoberfest is what fall in Lake County is all about. The brisk air is coming through and you may be drinking your favorite pumpkin influence beverage.

Enjoy the leaves and the essence of Fall occurs all throughout Lake County, so don’t miss the window (I know winter is disturbingly around the corner).

Here are some of the top weekend events for October 9-11.

  1. Join Gurnee for an evening surrounded by friends, neighbors and acquaintances in Grandwood Park’s Oktoberfest. Delicious eats and drinks will be featured at this celebratory affair with some live performances. At 6 p.m., DJ/Karaoke Entertainment will be available. When dusk occurs, there will be a firework display provided by the Mad Bomber, followed by a Grandwood Park bonfire.
Saturday, October 10; 5-11 p.m. Grandwood Park Ball Field, 38753 N. Hutchins Rd., Gurnee.
  1. America’s Got Talent from televisions Got Talent Live network NBC is coming to Genesee Theatre to perform their All-Star Tour. The show headlines Season 8 comedian Taylor Willliamson who was a runner-up in the competition. Other acts include Emily West, KriStef Brothers, Recycled Percussion, Blue Journey and Smoothini.
Saturday, October 10; 8 p.m. Tickets range from $32-$65. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St. Waukegan.
  1. Ghost StoriesTis the season to be spooky. Kick the Halloween season of with Ghost Stories and a Haunted Trail at the Volo Bog.  When dusk comes, the crowd gathers in picnic area just over the hill from Volo Bog to hear hair-raising tales! Mike Speller is returning for an encore performance, this year bringing an international flair with stories from around the world. Before the stories, you stroll down the Bog Tours, if you dare. Reservations are required.
Saturday, October 10; 5 p.m. Admission Fee: $5, Child admission $3 Volo Bog State Natural Area, 28478 W. Brandenburg Rd. Ingleside.
  1. Experience the history of Naval Station Great Lakes through one of the Navy’s most private cemeteries. The tour starts at the Great Lakes Naval Museum and will last one hour and 30 minutes. This tour is open to the public, but registration must be made in advance.
Saturday October 10; 2 -3:30 p.m. Great Lakes Naval Museum, 610 Farragut Avenue, Building 42, Great Lakes.
  1. This festival has pumpkins stacked to the sky. CemeteryGet into the spirit with your friend Jack and a lantern and journey to Highwood for the Great Pumpkin FestivalOnce again, the festival will be packed with daily events, vendors galore, live music, hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin carving, massive pumpkin displays, nightly pumpkin lightings, a parade, 5K/10K Pumpkin run and so much more.
