Things to do this Weekend December 18-20

timthumbIt’s beginning to look a lot like…wait a second. Was it 60 degrees last weekend? I’m totally loving this.

I hope you’re shopping is going well. I know I haven’t started yet, but if you’re looking for a few places to pick up gift ideas, here are a few places to peruse.

We’re getting a lot closer to Christmas and that being said, there are a lot of performances and such around Lake County to get you into the spirit. Visit Lake County would also like to extend a Happy Hanukah for the last day of the holiday.

Here are a couple of things to visit as you’re counting down the days to the weekend.

  1. Who’s ready for the holidays? Waukegan is as HolidayWauk returns to the streets along the shore of Lake Michigan. Join in on the festivities as Urban Edge features hot chocolate and antler decorating, Three Brothers Theatre offers a photo-op with red-suited, white bearded North Pole resident, Tufo’s Gallery hosts an ornament decorating session, Dandelion Gallery showcases a small works show and free gift wrapping and so much more. With all of the festivities, activities, art shows and more, you can join Waukegan High School Choir for a holiday sing-a-long.
Saturday, December 19; 5-10 p.m. Downtown Waukegan, Genesee Street, Waukegan.
  1. A part of a child’s balanced breakfast shouldn’t really include green eggs and ham. However, you should make an exception this weekend for the Seussical. Witness some of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters like the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville in a classic kids’ show.
Friday-Sunday, December 18-20; Fri 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m., Sat 10 a.m., Sun 10 a.m. Admission: $20. Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire.
  1. Take a special journey with Quentin Road this Christmas as the secrets from Christmas Past are unlocked. With a 300-voice children-and-adult choir, dramatic lighting, and live animals (including an 8-foot camel), see what really happened on that first Christmas night long ago. Add this into your annual holiday tradition and relive the classic year after year.
Friday-Sunday, December 18-20; Fri 7:30 p.m., Sat 2 & 6 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. Quentin Road Baptist Church, 60 Quentin Rd., Lake Zurich.
  1. Rink Side’s Holiday Ice Spectacular is where you may see the future Meryl Davis/Charlie White tandem, Gracie Gold or Kristi Yamaguchi. The Gurnee Mills ice rink hosts this show starring extremely skilled skating performers. After the showcase, the ice will be open for public skating till 10 p.m. Don’t forget to say hello to Kris Kringle and his wife, who will be in the lobby meeting, greeting and taking pictures until 9:30.
Saturday, December 19; 7 p.m. Admission: $5 in advance, $7 at the door. Price includes admission and skate rental. Rink Side Family Entertainment Center 6152 W. Grand Ave., Gurnee.
  1. Antioch is dressed up like Olde England for the Dickens Holiday Village. After seeing all of the characters spread around Downtown Antioch, head to P.M. &L Theatre as they present A Christmas Carol, made famous by the aforementioned author. This is the final weekend of this classic tale.
Friday-Sunday, December 18 – 20; Adult Admission: $15, Senior & Child Admission: $13, P.M. &L Theatre, 877 Main St., Antioch.
