This weather just can’t stay in one place. I don’t even have to go outside to figure that out, because my allergies will give me the weather forecast.
It doesn’t mean we’re not built for this type of weather. Come on, you’ve lived in the Midwest long enough to know one day might be 70 degrees (and BBQ weather) while the day before it’s a blizzard.
There are a slew of outdoor activities to get involved with around Lake County as there are indoor as well. All I know is trust me, spring is right around the corner.
Here are your top things to do this weekend in April 8-10.
- It is a mere three weeks away before Six Flags Great America opens for the season on April 23. But before you feel the chills and thrills of a roller coaster ride at the Gurnee theme park, experience the radiant colors in Lake County. The Color Vibe 5K is a splendid race where you’ll be blasted with all shades of the spectrum in each station. Grab the family and go for a fun run where you will literally taste the rainbow. Register on thecolorvibe.com.
Saturday, April 9; 9 a.m. Six Flags Great America, I-94 and Rt. 132, Gurnee.
- Ever wonder where man’s best friend loves to socialize and mingle? Hawthorn Woods is hosting Bark in the Park where dogs, families and friends take a stroll through Community Park. Your canine will run, jump, roll over and play with other friends. Don’t hesitate in spoiling your pet, because it’s a dog eat dog world out there. Your canine friends will enjoy treats, pampering, fun and other activities. All participating dogs must be on a leash and have the current flu vaccination.
Saturday, April 9; 10 a.m. – Noon. Community Park, Old McHenry and Quentin Roads, Hawthorn Woods.
- Experience hundreds of the premier suds, wine and fare at DiCarlo’s Spring Wine, Food and Craft Beer Festival held at the Grand Ballroom of Mundelein’s DoubleTree Hotel. Admission includes a crystal commemorative wine glass. Don’t forget to try out the tasty eats from participating local Lake County restaurants. Rooms for an overnight stay will be available at the DoubleTree for $99 with breakfast on Sunday included.
Saturday, April 9; 12-4 p.m. Members admission in advance: $30, Non-members admission: $35.
DoubleTree by Hilton Libertyville-Mundelein, 510 E. IL Route 83, Mundelein.
- CLC’s four choirs (the CLC Singers, Chamber Singers, Choir of Lake County and Gospel Choir) will present a varied program of choral music to celebrate spring at James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake. Due to the quiet nature of many songs, the choral program is not appropriate for children under the age of three.
Saturday, April 9; 4 p.m. Adult Admission $4, Senior and Child Admission: $3. James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at College of Lake County, 19351 Washington St., Grayslake.
- With the excitement of Star Wars: The Force Awakens releasing to DVD this week, join Ryerson Woods for a family event with Skokie Valley Astronomers to explore the galaxy. Adults and children will learn about topics in astronomy and stargaze into the Lake County night sky with binoculars or telescope following the discussion. No registration required. This free admission event is weather permitting. Children age 12 and up.
Friday, April 8; 8-10 p.m., Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve, 21850 N. Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods.
