Six Flags Great America is back open again for business. Experience a thrilling ride on one of 14 serious roller coasters, great dining treasures, charming live entertainment, their undying tribute to Looney Toons and DC Comics and so much more at the legendary park. THE JOKER, a new free-fly coaster is slated to open in 2017. But besides the thrills and chills you receive during the day on the coasters, the Gurnee amusement park throws other functions. The Blacklight Run is a unique DC Superhero 5K fun run focused less on the speed and more on the UV neon glowing fun with the friends and family, which is also taking place this weekend. All ages and speeds are welcome as every participant will get ‘glowed,’ and have the time of their life. The race is Friday, April 28 (racers will have an opportunity to explore the park) and the park opens to the general public Saturday, April 29.

‘She Loves Me,’ debuts this weekend at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. This comedy-musical gem based off the book by Joe Masteroff is set in the 1930s in a Hungarian parfumerie and the store clerks. Amalia and Georg don’t see eye-to-eye at work but get jazzed up as they unknowingly write love letters to each other after responding to a lonely hearts advertisement. The original stage play won a Tony Award in 1964 for Jack Cassidy’s portrayal of Steven Kodaly. Just picture the drama that may occur on a reality show between employees with text messages (instead of love letters) and Tinder at a modern-day Sephora. The show runs through June 18.

Every year the James Lumber Center gives us a slew of eye-opening performances from the Fear No Art Festival. This year is no different as the Grayslake Art Festival reaches its 19th year at the College of Lake County. This lively festival features a variety of artists performing music, dance and poetry. Also, there will be a stunning display of other art mediums including paintings, photography and sculptures by CLC students and community artists.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature as runners and walkers will circle Big Bear and Little Bear Lakes in Vernon Hills during the Annual Loop the Lakes 5K. Participants in this Century Park race will receive event T-shirts and awards are given to the best overall and female runners as well as the top-three winners at each age group. Preregister for the Vernon Hills run at active.com or raceentry.com. Following the race, you can ‘fly a kite up to the highest heights’ right after the contest. Bring a kite from home or purchase one at the Century Park Family Kite Fly event for $6 to send it floating up through the atmosphere. Proceeds from the purchased kites go towards after school programming. No registration is required for the free family kite fly. Admission for Loop the Lakes 5K is $25 per person.
