Tasty Tuesday: Dover Straits in Mundelein

Dover Straits in Mundelein just celebrated its 37
th of their doors being opened as we celebrate another Tasty Tuesday.
I remember the first time I ate at the seafood-savvy restaurant I was just nine-years old going for lobster for my brother’s eighth grade graduation dinner. Ever since my family stepped foot in the Mundelein establishment, we’ve turned into frequent customers.
The original Dover Straits opened its doors in 1978 and has proudly serving fresh seafood that is flown in daily.
The Metropoulous brothers (there are seven who own and operate the facility) are originally from Greece. When you walk through their foyer, they treat you as if you’re a part of the family.
As the seafood dining option specializes in crab legs, lobster tails, imported Dover sole, their menu also includes awesome appetizers, steaks, ribs, lamb chops, pastas, salads and sandwiches. The wine list contains a selection of wines from different countries including France, Greece, Germany, Italy and Australia, and states of Washington and California to 
compliment every meal.
Some of the Chef’s Specialties include Imported Dover Sole (House specialty, de-boned tableside & served with amandine sauce), Filet Mignon & Atlantic Salmon (broiled steak and fish served with béarnaise sauce), Bouillabaisse Marseillaise (lobster tail, fresh fish, jumbo shrimp, sea scallops, mussels & clams in an aromatic broth) and Alaskan Jumbo King Crab Legs (succulent tender crab legs, steamed & served with drawn butter).
The January special or Captain’s selection is a $25.95 broiled lobster tail, sautéed jumbo shrimp and sea scallops with mushrooms and sherry wine sauce.
To set the mood at Dover Straits, every weekend the Mundelein eatery features a five-piece band on Fridays and Saturdays beginning at 8 p.m. The music ranges from 1960s-90s music, as well as top 40 songs.
My brother’s graduation dinner back from in the day was a 14 person party. Dover Straits takes it to the next level and obtains the ability to host up to 130 guest in a private reception party. Continue here for their package menu.
