Father's Day 2016 in Lake County

You see, I’m a scholar of sorts when it comes to dads. Not because I am one, nay, I understand the disrespect most get.

Think of the songs you’ve heard over the years: Papa was a rolling stone, Father of mine, Papa Don’t Preach, Cats in the Cradle. I mean heck, they’re all great songs, but they’re all terrible songs about fathers.

From my papa bear to yours, to my Grandpa Jim to yours and to everyone’s daddio long legs (yea I called my father that one time when he beat me in a race when I was little); Visit Lake County wants to wish you and yours a Happy Father’s Day. Here’s a list of the best of the best festivities during Father’s Day 2016 in Lake County.

Picnic in the Park with Dad at Hawthorn Mall June 18; Noon-1 pm

Come celebrate Dad this Father’s Day at Picnic in the Park. Enjoy free food, kid's craft, meet and greet with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a DJ and balloon artist. The event is $5 per child/limit 2 adults per child maximum. Tickets can be purchased at Snickelfritz Toys located in Hawthorn Mall on the lower level near JcPenney.

Father's Day Canoe Adventure @ Chicago Botanic Garden June 18-19; Sat 9, 11 am and 1 pm, Sun 9 am

The Garden invites you to participate in a rare opportunity to canoe the lakes of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Herons, ducks, small fish, and maybe even a few turtles and frogs will greet you as we explore their watery habitat. No experience with canoeing is necessary; instruction, canoes, life jackets, and paddles are all provided. Please choose one of the start times that are scheduled. You’ll enjoy a full hour canoeing the lakes of Chicago Botanic Garden. Be sure to register early, as this event always sells out!

Father's Day Beer Brunch at the Illinois Beach Resort June 19; 10 am – 2 pm

Celebrate Dad's day with a buffet of all of his favorite manly selections and then wash it all down with a refreshingly cold beer. Take in the panoramic views of Lake Michigan while sampling the delicious chicken wing station, slow roasted prime rib, oysters on the half shell, St. Louis style BBQ ribs, chicken and waffles and so much more. Reservations required.

Father's Day Brunch at Lambs Farm June 19; 10 am, noon and 2 pm

Celebrate Dad with Lambs Farm's Father's Day Brunch! Dad can choose from hearty entrees or breakfast favorites, and top it off with heavenly desserts straight from the bakery! Seatings are 10 a.m., Noon, and 2 p.m.

16th Annual Corvette, Chevy & Street Rod Father's Day Car Show June 19; 9 a.m. – 2:30 pm

Register a car to show or just come out and see all the great cars. There will be great food, a DJ and raffles. Trophies will be awarded in each category. Rain or shine. Visit the website to register or for more details.

Father's Day Brunch at Beelow's Lake Zurich June 19; 11 a.m. – 2:30 pm

Make reservations today and bring dad out for an awesome spread of delicious food. Give Dad the day off and bring him out for Savanna House's Father's Day Cook-out. Enjoy a BBQ Platter with meat from a pig roasted over cherry wood, smoked beef brisket, homemade mac-n-cheese, country baked beans and tangy slaw all for only $17.95 per person.
